Macon
Marge and Rodney landed in Macon, Georgia, where Marge had her first child, Donald, in 1943. Soon thereafter, the young family moved to Atlanta where Rodney was studying and working at Emory University.
Marge split her time raising Donnie while also continuing her passion for art, studying at the Atlanta Art Institute.
Atlanta
A few years after Donnie was born, two events occurred that proved to be pivotal in her life. In late April 1946, her younger brother, Earl, died tragically in a car accident shortly after coming home from fighting in WWII.
A pregnant Marge was called back home to Stoughton to grieve with her family. A few weeks later, the second pivotal event happened, the birth of her daughter Carole.
Savannah
The young family lived in Atlanta for a few years before Rodney moved everyone to the beach at Tybee Island outside of Savannah. Then in 1955, Rodney got a job with the US Forest Service in Missoula, Montana. For the second time, the young family would radically alter geography, culture, and climate and land in Missoula, Montana.
